Philipp Plein, from luxury furniture to men's clothing.
Philipp Plein made a name for himself in no time thanks to the extravagance of his pieces. Today at the head of several dozen stores in Europe and worldwide, the German designer proposes clothes for men who are free-spirited and rebellious.
From steel to leather, from leather to textiles.
Philipp Plein was not really destined for a career as a clothes designer. Born in Munich in 1978, he started out in interior furnishings. He designed custom-made furniture in brushed steel, then in leather, for houses, yachts, hotels and even private jets. If he did decide to venture into the world of fashion, it was because he did not like wasting off-cuts of materials. In 2003, he fitted out the Moët & Chandon lounge for a German trade fair where he was also given the opportunity of presenting his clothes. He launched his brand one year later, simultaneously with his first collection.
One day, Philipp Plein had the idea of customising a skull with diamonds. The piece was snapped up and the skull became the label's symbol. Today, Philipp Plein has boutiques all over the world. In his lines of clothing for men, we find lots of black leather, graphic prints and metal detailing. Occasionally, he moves the world of rock'n'roll a little closer to the world of sportswear, and vice versa. Amongst the brand's best-selling items, we could mention Philipp Plein cashmere sweaters embellished with Swarovski crystals, but also the leather jackets and footwear by Philipp Plein, which demonstrate the extensive know-how of the designer when it comes to working with leather.
Part rock'n'roll, part sporty.
Philipp Plein men's clothes all share a slightly nonconformist look. A stylised skull often graces the T-shirts with its beautiful presence, in the form of a simple logo or an imposing motif. The jeans either have faded or worn effects, torn finishes or are embellished with embroidery. Jumpers and sweatshirts by Philipp Plein make references to sporting legends, like Mohamed Ali, and cartoon characters, spicing the collections up with a touch of originality. Philipp Plein clothes are characterised by their understated and mono colour tones even if bright colours like red make an appearance from time to time. As far as fabrics are concerned, the designer chooses very sophisticated materials - wool, cashmere, exceptional quality leathers.
To inject a rock'n'roll vibe into your wardrobe, you can pick from one of the numerous ranges of Philipp Plein T-shirts with skull prints. Leather Philipp Plein blousons accentuate the silhouette, with their irreproachable cuts. Finally, the provocative and extravagant style of the brand's jeans will appeal to anyone with a rebellious streak.
